Step by Step

Racers, lace up those shoes. The Lanikai Bike Path 8K Run, steps off at 7 a.m. on Sunday, July 8. This race is sponsored by Dr. Joyce Cassen, in memory of her son, Daniel Levey, who died in a hiking accident after running the race in 2003. This year, the race is chip-timed and entry forms are available at www.active.com or as print-outs at the Mid-Pacific Road Runners Club site, www.mprrc.com. More of a spur-of-the-moment runner? Show up and sign up by 6:15 a.m. at the Kailua-Lanikai boat ramp. Cost is $5 for members and $10 for non-members. The race starts at the Lanikai monument, takes two counter-clockwise loops through the bike path, ending at the boat ramp. Awards will be given to elite and age-group winners. And, if that footrace isn’t enough, there’s the Kailua Beach Run 8K that starts at the same location on Sunday July 15. This one is a show-up, sign-up event (again, $5 for members, $10 for non-members) that’s followed by awards and a potluck.
